Beach Monitoring Program Reports -
As part of the post-restoration monitoring program, the Bolsa Chica Lowlands Restoration Project Beach Monitoring Plan (US Fish and Wildlife Service, 2001) has been implemented. The objective of the beach monitoring program is to develop a quantitative understanding of changes in the condition of the beaches adjacent to the constructed Bolsa Chica Full Tidal Basin entrance channel. The study area includes portions of the Bolsa Chica and Huntington Cliffs shorelines. The monitoring program, which commenced in January 2007, is comprised of semi-annual beach profile surveys and monthly beach width measurements at seven sites located along a 5.3 km section of coastline between Bolsa Chica State Beach and 17th Street in Huntington Beach.
The beach profile surveys are conducted by Coastal Frontiers Corporation for Merkel & Associates, the Bolsa Chica Lowlands Monitoring contractor to the State Lands Commission. The results of the semi-annual beach profile surveys completed to date are posted below. Full analyses of the findings of these beach profile surveys are included in each annual report for the entire project, also available on the reports page of this website.
