These artist photos were taken before construction and during the construction period from December 2004 to September 2006.  Nearly all photos were taken by Jack Fancher, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Project elements shown include the construction of the PCH bridge to span the new inlet, removal of oil wells and contaminated sediment, excavation of the created full tidal basin, creation of nesting sites for terns and plovers, construction of levees to create the full tidal basin, and flooding of the new basin in August 2006.
